What Needs Have Been Met So Far?

• $50,000 was raised for the Playground for Jesus The basketball court is ready, a fence is going up, and a playground is on its way!
• A heating bill for a single woman and child was paid.
• 24 turkeys were bought to provide a meal for needy families at Christmas.
• Propane for the entire winter was provided for a single mother with 2 children.
• An 18 wheeler full of toys was sent so children would have Christmas gifts.
• 192 canned chickens were bought for hungry families.
• A sick lady's trailer lot rent was covered. She has no family to lean on.
• Rent and other expenses were paid for a Vietnam Veteran in his early 60s with Multiple Sclerosis.
• A brother and sister who are both mentally challenged had their rent paid while someone investigates who is taking advantage of them and taking their SSI check.
• 100 electric blankets were bought to give to people so that they can make it through the next cold snap.

What Is This Ministry?

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 1 John 3:17

This ministry was begun out of another ministry, Playground for Jesus.
Our church staff at FBC Meridian decided to cancel Sunday night church in the summer of 2009 and challenged us to get out and "do God's work in our community." As we worked on the Playground for Jesus with plans to have basketball camps and other activities to minister to the children of our community, we found that there are many people in desperate need of basic things we all take for granted. So, 1 John 3:17 was born to meet the needs of people in our community. Each week an email is sent out with the "need of the week", and on Monday mornings, Trey Long goes on the radio on 1010 AM to make the rest of the community aware of the need. People call in to the station and make a pledge until the money is raised for that particular need to be covered.
